BEST CRUELTY & DMDM HYDANTOIN FREE SHAMPOOS AND CONDITIONERS FOR 2021

Image
On TikTok there has been some info that the ingredient DMDM Hydantoin, which is found in many shampoos and conditioners, causes hair to fall out. For example loved brands such as OGX, Dove, TIGI, TRESemme, Joico contain this preservative. There are also other common ingredients like salt (sodium chloride) and sulfates that can also cause hair loss and would be best to avoid.  Looking at all the ingredients in shampoos, it's sad to see that most contain at least one ingredient that could lead to some issues, so still seeking the perfect shampoo. Here is a compilation of the best DMDM Hydantoin-free, sulfate and salt free shampoos and conditioners that are also cruelty-free. milk_shake Integrity Nourishing shampoo and conditioner milk_shake Integrity Nourishing shampoo and conditioner Unfortunately, not all of their products are sulfate or salt free. milk_shake Incredible Milk - Review

Image
With winter upon us, my hair was feeling dry, so when reading about all the effects milk_shake's Incredible Milk should have, I just had to try it. This hair moisturising leave-in treatment has this tropical coconut-y scent and oily butter type formula. I spritz about 4 – 6 pumps on my hands and run it through my towel-dried hair. When it's completely dry I can definitely see the added shine and hydration. My hair is so much softer and feels healthier. It really does what it is supposed to and I love this little addition to my haircare routine.

All I want for Christmas is ... more beauty products!!

Image
I haven't been in the Christmas mood. Maybe it's the no snow and staying at home for me, but I still need it. So why not write a little festive blog post!  At Christmas I quite enjoy making presents. Brainstorming gift ideas, planning out the purchases within the budget and creating something to make someone happy. Also it means I get to do some shopping and it's nice to not buy things for myself all the time.  Whenever someone asks me what I want for Christmas I always come up with a list. Even if I don't need anything. I guess I just don't like it when I say I don't know, I don't have any wishes and then I am unhappy when I get a gift I don't like. So to help myself and others, I always come up with options. This year my Christmas wishlist is quite short, because I did my retail therapy in November. But these are a few things I can expect under the Christmas tree. This could also be used as a gift guide for self-care lovers. Satin pillowcase I'd sa...

Alfaparf Milano Semi di Lino Diamond Illuminating Shampoo and Conditioner - Review

Image
Alfaparf Milano is a recognized salon brand and actually using their products I was bleached blonde. When I learned that you can buy their hair care products for a great price and they have great reviews, my expectations were pretty high. The Diamond range is for normal hair. Their products are free from parabens, minerals, oils and sulfates. Price 11,95€ & 13,95€ The Illuminating shampoo and conditioner is supposed to detangle and give hair extreme shine and softness, containing many great ingredients. The scent is quite chemical, just like the scents in a hair salon.  I wash my hair just as instructed, but the results shockingly aren't as great for me as promised. It is surprising since most hair care products work for me pretty well. But these just don't. After my hair dries it's not as soft, maybe even feels more rough and lacks shine. However it makes it easier to work with my hair when it comes to hairstyles. But my hair gets greasy super fast. On the top of my he...

milk_shake Sweet Camomile Shampoo and Conditioner - Review

Image
I learned about milk_shake through my cosmetologist from whom I hear so much about all these great products and brands, so since she suggested it, it must be good. Milk_shake is a salon brand and has many shampoo and conditioner ranges. I chose the Sweet Camomile shampoo and conditioner (13–14€ each) to revitalize my bleached blonde hair. This sweet honey-camomile scented shampoo promises to revive highlights, soften, enhance the brilliance and vibrancy of blonde hair. I love that their products are paraben and sls/sles free. The scent of this shampoo is super sweet, but really nice as organic camomile and honey make me think of summer. The shampoo has this yellow see through gel-like formula, which foams nicely and cleans my hair well. The conditioner is the basic cream-like formula, which is super moisturising. After I let my hair air-dry, it always feels really clean and fresh. It starts getting greasy after 2–3 days of washing. My hair is more shiny and feels soft and moisturized. ...

Sim DS Blond Shampoo - Review

Image
It's not always easy to find good and actually working anti-yellow products for cool blondes. A friend suggested this highly pigmented purple shampoo by a Finnish brand Sim. It says to leave on after massaging it into hair for 1–5 minutes depending on your desired results. It is also supposed to moisturize, add shine and volume. This shampoo is perfume free, vegan and dermatologically tested. Price 10,5€ To my surprise this actually worked very efficiently. The purple pigment is pretty strong, so it does stain cuticles/around the nails. Also while rinsing out the shampoo, be thorough. I've left the shower with purple stains on my scalp. It is rinseable though. At times it is even too powerful making my hair gray, so no need to leave it in for long. As a shampoo it also cleaned my hair well and wasn't drying. It doesn't leave purple streaks in my hair, which some other purple shampoos or masks have done. As a result my level 10 blonde hair has always been evenly cool ton...

Dyeing blonde hair ROSE GOLD with Joico Color Intensity Semi-Permanent Blush + Rose Gold - Review

Image
Rose gold trend is clearly not slowing down any time soon and it really shouldn't, because it's a pretty cute colour. I'm glad that Joico offers people a chance to dye their hair at home with their semi-permanent colours (which means they wash out after some washes). Joico has a wide variety of colors, but I went for blush and rose gold as my friend suggested, beacuse the rose gold tone might be a tad bit too bronze/orange, while mixing it with blush, you can get this more pinkish rose gold.  Also it's a good thing that I bought two colours, because I emptied these two tubes right away. One costs about 15,9€, so I pretty much paid the same amount at home as I might have at hair dressers. Also beware that if you have long thick hair, you might have to purchase at least one tube more. If you have short hair, one tube should be enough. My hair is a level 9–10 blonde, so I was a bit afraid that the colours might be too bright and intense for me, I...

Toning blonde hair ROSE GOLD - Four Reasons Toning Treatment - Review

Image
It was a dream of mine for the longest time to dye my hair blonde and I finally did it. While I love how cool my new blonde hair looks, maintaining it is not that easy. One thing is constantly bleaching the outgrown roots, the other is preserving a nice tone/shade of blonde hair. I love that with blonde hair you can tone it with different colours and it usually washes out, so you can try out many shades of blonde (including blue, purple, pink etc). At first I was all about the cold blonde. To maintain it I used Estel's Prima Blonde Silver mask, which was supposed help with that, but after using it for sometime,  it gave my hair a light green hue, which I did not enjoy. Because well blue (from the mask) and yellow (from the natural hair) makes green. So after my hairdresser explained the chemistry and introduced the idea of rose gold toned hair (because red tones neutralize green), I was excited to try it and after my hair dresser did her magic, I was completely in love. It actually...

2019 beauty favourites!!

Image
Wow, what a year! Graduating high school and starting university. That's also the reason I haven't been posting that much anymore, but I hope I can manage to start posting more this year :) But let's get to the beauty favourites that changed my life this year. Skin care pHformula VITA A cream Although my skin is currently not doing so good (damn hormones), this product also changed my skin game this year. Retinol truly does wonders when it comes to acne and skin regeneration. Full review coming soon! pHformula E.X.F.O. cleanse Another great product from my cosmetologist. This is a gentle cleansing exfoliant that I use every night. It's kind of like a cleansing milk, that effectively and gently removes my make-up (even eye make-up) and impurities. The Body Shop Vitamin E Refreshing Eyes Cube Long time favourite of mine. So refreshing in the morning. I love the cooling feel and light hydration under eyes. This is also so small, which makes...

L'Oreal Colorista Washout blue hair - Review & how to get it out

Image
Do not buy this product! Why? Because it will not come out of your hair. This is actually a problem for many people, especially with the blue colours, because these will stain your hair and turn into this light greenish colour, unless that's the look you are going for. It's been one of my dreams to dye my hair blue, dark blue to be honest, but I don't want that permanent commitment, so the new Colorista Washout colours seemed to be perfect. I got the pastel blue colour, because it was so pretty on the packaging and well I pretty much bought it on a whim while hanging out with friends, without doing any research. The colour pretty much only shows and stays on blonde hair. My hair is dyed ombre, so I tried to apply this only on my blonde ends, also my not coloured hair turned dark green (which washed out easily). The colour at first was more cool light purple than pastel blue, but it was okay. It actually didn't look bad, I liked it. But it was so difficult to rea...

John Frieda Beach Blonde Shampoo And Conditioner - Review

Image
I really really want summer. Only few months to go, but to get the summer feeling, why not try the shampoo that was a hit last summer.  John Frieda Cool Dip Purifying Shampoo cleanses thirsty, heat-damaged hair. Leaves hair silky soft  and lightly textured, for an effortlessly tousled beach style.  John Frieda Smooth Seas Detangling Conditioner unties knots and snags. Formulated with Kukui Nut Oil, lightweight conditioner gently nourishes and detangles hair. Both are infused with energising mint. First of all I love the green cute packaging, already summer vibes. The size is really good for travelling. The shampoo gets nice and foamy. The scent is minty and refreshing. Conditioner has this thick texture that is really comfortable to massage into the hair.  My hair is soft, silky  and lightly smells minty. I noticed that my hair had light tousled waves (usually it's super straight) and more volume. Overall my hair feels super healthy. I'm in love with ...

Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo & Conditioner - Review

Image
I have read many good reviews about Aussie and lately I've been into natural products, so I picked up this shampoo and conditioner. Aussie has many different choices for shampoos, but since it's winter and my hair tends to get dry, I needed to find moisturising products.  The scent is kind of chemical-ish, it's not bad, I just find it a bit unpleasant. Shampoo gets nice and foamy. The bottles could be prettier, but I like that they take less room in the shower.  After washing with these products, my hair is softer, definitely not dry and feels great. Hair is light and soft, yeah really soft. After a while my hair gets frizzy, which is definitely not good. Great shampoo and conditioner, but nothing really special.

Dove Pure Care Dry Oil For Hair - Review

Image
Taking care of long hair isn't that easy. Thanks to hair oil I can tame, nourish and make my hair ends look healthy. This is the first hair oil I've owned and I'm pretty happy with the results. Dove's hair oil is a nourishing treatment with African macadamia oil for all hair types. Since you only need 3-4 pumps of oil, it's gonna last for a pretty long time. The smell is strong and unpleasant for me, but after drying, it's less noticeable. Oil leaves my hair soft and shiny, it's not heavy, no buildup. Hair looks healthy and thick. For the price and quality, I think this is an amazing product.

OGX Luxurious Moroccan Argan Créme Shampoo and Conditioner - Review

Image
OGX is my favourite hair product brand, so I just had to buy a new shampoo from them. They have such a wide range of products, but one that stood out to me was luxurious morocca argan crĂ©me . Since it's cold outside, my hair tends to get dry, luckily this shampoo is extra moisturising. Indulge in argan oil, whipped into an opulent, decadent crĂ©me to lavish each strand in moisture, smoothing and nourishing the outer cuticle for super-hydrated, soft, shiny hair. The scent is pretty strong, sharp and chemical. I was expecting better. But when my hair was completely dry, WOW... Silky, shiny, soft, hydrated hair. The results were amazing. My hair also feels thicker. I definitely recommend this.

Random Hack Of The Day

When showering with hot/warm water, in the end of the shower, turn water to cold and rinse your hair, face and body. Switching water temperatures is good for your immune system. Cold water is good for hair, because it closes pores, seals in moisture, adds shine, but hot water is better for rinsing dirt. When warm water opens pores, then cold water closes them. Cold water improves circulation, eases stress and has other good benefits.

OGX Shampoos And Conditioners - Review

Image
I am so in love with OGX hair products. I bought the OGX Argan Oil Renewing shampoo and conditioner, because of a post on 9GAG. And it was the best thing ever. After the first wash my hair was completely changed, it was shiny, silky and bright. So I have been using OGX products ever since and I definitely want to try out all the different products OGX has. Price 10.90€ Renewing argan oil of morocco is OGX 's signature line. They say that the argan oil is sourced straight from Morocco. Rich in natural vitamin E and super-charged antioxidants, this special ingredient has been making hair gorgeous for centuries. First of all the smell is so good. The shampoo and conditioner have a nice golden colour. This shampoo gets really nice and foamy in the shower. I apply the conditioner from the middle part of my hair to the ends, not on the roots, because that might leave the hair roots a bit greasy. Hair was silky and shiny after wash, just amazing. The second one I tried was th...

Tips for Flawless Hair

Avoid heating tools Heating tools can dry and fry out hair, which leads to split ends and overall damage. Sleep on a silk pillowcase Silk is softer on your hair, prevents moisture loss and breakage Shampoo and condition with cold water Hot water might damage and dry your hair, but cold water seals in moisture and shine Don't brush wet hair Your hair is not strong when wet and brushing it leads to hair breakage Coconut Oil Coconut oil is really moisturising, so if you have dry hair, apply coconut oil on the ends Don't wash your hair everyday Washing daily can strip too much of your natural hair oils and dry your hair out Don't use too many hair products Using products too much might weaken your hair and leave it a mess Use good quality shampoos and conditioners They have more good benefits for your hair
