L'Oreal Colorista Washout blue hair - Review & how to get it out

Do not buy this product! Why? Because it will not come out of your hair. This is actually a problem for many people, especially with the blue colours, because these will stain your hair and turn into this light greenish colour, unless that's the look you are going for.

It's been one of my dreams to dye my hair blue, dark blue to be honest, but I don't want that permanent commitment, so the new Colorista Washout colours seemed to be perfect. I got the pastel blue colour, because it was so pretty on the packaging and well I pretty much bought it on a whim while hanging out with friends, without doing any research.

The colour pretty much only shows and stays on blonde hair. My hair is dyed ombre, so I tried to apply this only on my blonde ends, also my not coloured hair turned dark green (which washed out easily). The colour at first was more cool light purple than pastel blue, but it was okay. It actually didn't look bad, I liked it. But it was so difficult to really capture the colour as it was different in pretty much every light. After few washes the ends of my hair were actually light pastel blue and looked pretty cute.

Then it was fading and I made my biggest mistake. I re-dyed my hair with the Washout. Because I had a thing coming up and a half tube left of the colour, so I thought since I have already come this far, why not? Again ended up with intense purple ends. I don't think that my real hair colour and the purple really looked good together, but it didn't bother me.

The colour is supposed to come out in two weeks, but it only just fades and turns green, which I have been "rocking" for a month. I  started to hate it, since it was this light turqouise-green for the longest time and I had to go to school like this. So I read many reviews and tried to find tips on how to get it out of my hair, because I saw many reviews saying that the L'Oreal Fader Shampoo doesn't do anything.

I tried rinsing hair with vinegar and olive oil and leaving it in for 5 minutes, didn't do much. But mixing dish soap, Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo and baking soda + crushed vitamin C tablets, massaging and then leaving it in for 15-20 minutes actually lightened the colour, some parts you can even see blonde. I did this about 6 washes and it made the colour brighter (before it was this mouldy colour), but also helped fade it faster. But still some parts were so intense that I pretty much gave up and decided to go to my hairdresser to dye my hair. But she said that I can't dye it, because the green colour will show up underneath the new colour and the results wouldn't be prettier. So pretty much the only thing to do is cut my hair.

Of course I'm not doing that, so she gave me a Goldwell Scalp Specialist deep cleansing shampoo that should help fade the colour faster and it is safe to use daily. So currently I am using this shampoo. I pretty much do my basic hair wash routine, but then I also massage this Goldwell shampoo deeply into my coloured parts and leave it in for a few minutes. Then I rinse and condition. And this actually works! After every wash the colour fades more and I couldn't be happier that the end of my green hair is near. Currently my hair is a mixture of light cold green and blonde. It will take some time, hopefully a few weeks, to get rid of this Washout colour.

Overall I would not recommend buying the Washout colours, if you must, then the pink colours should actually come out of your hair. The other colours not so much. If your hair is naturally blonde,  you should be fine with all the colours. Otherwise it will stain your hair and come out in months (if you're lucky). Definitely do not bleach your hair if you are trying to get rid of the stained colour. It will only make the green pigment go deeper into your hair. Just save yourself some trouble and buy the Colorista colour spray instead or try a better brand.

UPDATE
So it's been 3 months since I coloured my hair light blue and then leaving me with green hair, it still hasn't come out. It has faded thanks to the shampoo I wrote about above, but the green was still stuck to my hair. I got fed up with the light green tone and decided to cut about 8 cm of my hair. Some of my hair ends are now only a little bit greenish, but no more of this horrible colour yayy!! These Washout colours are not worth it. I'm really disappointed in L'Oreal.
